How pickup works
Call us when you've landed, we come round.

Once you've cleared customs and have your luggage, send a text or call — we drive round to the short-stay car park and meet you there. Usually 5 minutes from your call.

Local context
Southampton is a port city and unitary authority in Hampshire, England. It is located approximately 80 miles (130 km) southwest of London, 20 miles (32 km) west of Portsmouth, and 20 miles (32 km) southeast of Salisbury. Southampton had a population of around 249,000 at the 2021 census, making it one of the most populous cities in southern England. It is best known for its port: the city handles more cruise departures than anywhere else in the UK, alongside a large container terminal.
Local drop-offs in Southampton include Royal South Hants Urgent Treatment Centre, hotels in the city centre, and any residential or business address you give us.
Traffic patterns we drive through
The actual road, not the schedule.
The standard run is M25 to M3 J14, then M27 J3 and the A33 into the city, about 65 miles. For the cruise terminals we stay on the M27 and drop down Western Docks Road, which avoids the city centre entirely. On a cruise-embarkation Saturday or Sunday the A33 and Dock Gate approaches slow from around 09:00, so we leave Heathrow up to 90 minutes earlier than the raw drive time suggests. Weekday rush hours on the M25 and M3 (roughly 06:30 to 09:00 and 15:30 to 18:30) add 30 to 45 minutes.

Common questions
Heathrow to Southampton — FAQ.
How long does it take from Heathrow to Southampton?
+
How long does it take from Heathrow to Southampton?
+About 1 hour 15 minutes off-peak from any terminal, via the M25, M3 and M27. On a Friday afternoon or a weekday rush hour expect up to 1 hour 50 due to M25 and M3 traffic, and on a busy cruise-embarkation weekend we allow extra time for the Dock Gate approaches.
How much does a Heathrow to Southampton taxi cost?
+
How much does a Heathrow to Southampton taxi cost?
+From £115 for an estate car (up to 4 people, 2 large suitcases) off-peak. That's the final price — Heathrow drop-off charge, motorway tolls and ULEZ are all included. Peak periods (Friday late afternoon, Sunday evening, public holidays) add 15%. No meter, no traffic surcharge, no card fees.
Do you cover all four Heathrow terminals?
+
Do you cover all four Heathrow terminals?
+Yes — T2, T3, T4 and T5. The pickup procedure is the same at each: call or text us once you've cleared customs, we drive round to the short-stay car park and collect you. No name-board meet & greet inside the terminal.
What happens if my flight is delayed?
+
What happens if my flight is delayed?
+We track your flight number, so we know when you've actually landed and adjust the pickup time accordingly. You're never charged extra for an airline delay. Free wait time is 60 minutes from your scheduled pickup.
Which Southampton cruise terminal do you cover?
+
Which Southampton cruise terminal do you cover?
+All four. Southampton has four cruise terminals: Ocean Terminal, Mayflower Terminal, Queen Elizabeth II (QEII) Terminal and the Horizon Cruise Terminal (City Cruise Terminal). They are used by lines including Cunard, P&O Cruises, Princess, MSC and NCL. We drop at the entrance of whichever terminal your ship sails from; just tell us the ship or terminal name when you book. We build in time for the Dock Gate security check, and because your fare is fixed a cruise-day queue never changes the price. For a full cruise-day breakdown, see our Heathrow to Southampton cruise terminal transfers page.
Is a taxi worth it versus the coach from Heathrow?
+
Is a taxi worth it versus the coach from Heathrow?
+National Express runs a direct coach from Heathrow Central Bus Station to Southampton for roughly £17 to £25, and it is the cheapest option if you are travelling light and your timing is flexible. A private taxi makes more sense when you are travelling as a group, land late at night, or want a door-to-door drop at the cruise terminal or your address without changing vehicles or dragging cases across the coach station. Our estate car takes up to four passengers with two large suitcases plus cabin bags; at £115 fixed that works out at around £29 each.
