Local context

Oxford is the county town of Oxfordshire, about 48 miles northwest of Heathrow. It is home to the University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English-speaking world, with colleges such as Christ Church, Magdalen and Balliol clustered around the city centre. Other frequent destinations include the John Radcliffe Hospital in Headington, the Saïd Business School beside the railway station, and the Bodleian Library.

We drop at any college lodge, city-centre hotel, hospital, business park or residential address you specify, and Blenheim Palace at Woodstock (8 miles north) is covered at the same fixed fare.

Traffic patterns we drive through

The actual road, not the schedule.

The standard run is a short hop on the M25 from Heathrow to J1A, then the M40 north to J8 at Wheatley, and the A40 into east Oxford, about 48 miles. The M40 stretch through Beaconsfield and High Wycombe adds 15 to 25 minutes Monday to Friday 07:00 to 09:00. The A40 final approach and the Green Road roundabout back up on Friday 17:00 to 19:00, which is when the run stretches towards 1 hour 30. An alternative via M4 J13 and the A34 northbound saves a few miles but adds time in weekday rush hour between Chilton and the Peartree interchange, so we usually stay on the M40.

Yes. We drop at any University of Oxford college lodge, including Christ Church, Magdalen and Balliol, and at the John Radcliffe, Churchill and Nuffield Orthopaedic hospitals in Headington. We also cover the Saïd Business School, Oxford Brookes University, Oxford railway station and Oxford Parkway. Just give us the college, hospital or building name when you book, and the fixed fare stays the same across the city. Many central colleges sit inside the Oxford ZEZ and controlled-access streets, so we drop as close as the access rules allow and help with luggage on the final approach.

Is a taxi worth it versus the coach or train from Heathrow?

Oxford is well served by public transport. The Airline coach from the Oxford Bus Company runs direct from Heathrow to Gloucester Green for about £26 single, and the train reaches Oxford via London Paddington. Both are cheaper if you are travelling light and your timing is flexible. A private taxi makes more sense when you are travelling as a group, land late at night, or want a door-to-door drop at a college on move-in day, a city-centre hotel or the John Radcliffe without changing at Gloucester Green or hauling cases through the station. Our estate car takes up to four passengers with two large suitcases plus cabin bags; at £90 fixed that works out at around £23 each.
